KS1 Borough Sports 7 July 2017
On Friday 7th July the school took part in KS 1 Borough Sports at Garon Park . All the races at KS1 Borough Sports are relays. They feature skipping, eggs and spoons and space hoppers in addition to batons so the emphasis is on involvement and fun rather than competition. St Mary's picked a balanced team of 5 girls and 5 boys from both year groups:
from Year One; Faratiade, Radiyah, Maisie, Ellie, Megan, Shane, Leo-Che, Jamie, Eli and Brandon
and from Year Two; Lacey, Faith, Abigail, Sylvia, Lana, Praise, Tinotenda, Nathaniel, Emari and Calen.
The children both competed and behaved well and were a great credit to the school. St. Mary's reached the finals of most of the relay races so the children can be proud of their efforts. Best of all they enjoyed their afternoon out at Garons.
So did Miss Evans who was brave enough to take part in the teachers race!
KS2 Borough Sports 21 Jun 2017
St Mary's great success, medal wins and a new Borough record.
PE & Sport lead teacher, Mr Jolly said
It was a wonderful day and I wanted to express how proud I am of the whole squad. Although many were disappointed when finishing out of the top 3, their contributions over the past term have been exemplary especially with the Hairspray production and national testing during this busy term. The behaviour of the children throughout the morning really was a joy to see. They congratulated each other and supported all children taking part. A credit to the school.
A huge thanks must go to Mr. Abbott for his commitment to achieving high standards during training and Mr Woolf's PE coaching which continues to improve the overall skill set of our children. Many of the children who took part gave up their lunch and break times in preparation. We would also like to say a thank you to staff members and parents who supported us on the day.
Well done to all for representing St. Mary's with such perseverance, respect and responsibility.

Abigail - shot put First, new borough record
Borough Sports champion!
On the 22nd June, Abigail -Editor of St Mary’s Journalism Club - broke the borough record for shot-put at the Borough Sports 2017, topping a successful day for the school.
The competition, which featured 10 schools, saw St Mary’s come joint 1st with Darlinghurst for Field Events, 3rd for Track Events and a spectacular 2nd overall for the whole competition.
Abigail smashed her record for shot-put. She broke her own record three times! I bet she was proud!
When she came back to school a couple of hours later everyone sprinted towards her and congratulated this well-deserved winner. She couldn’t believe that she broke the record either.
Because of her amazing achievement she has an opportunity to go to super sports and hopefully win that as well. No pressure Abigail!
On Friday the 23rd of June, Abigail went up in assembly and collected a well-deserved medal along with all the team that represented St Mary’s at the competition.
We are all very proud of her and everyone that took part. Mr Jolly was very amazed; he couldn’t believe it!

We believe Asher (Yr 5 Boys Long Jump), Esther (Yr 3 Girls Standing Long Jump) and
Nabeel (Yr 5 Boys Rounders Ball Throw, with a 42m PB) all made 4th Place.
St Mary's now hold three Borough Records.
We gained the 4 x 100m Girls Yr 3 and the Girls Yr 6 Shot to add to the Boys Yr 6 Shot from 2016 but surprisingly Seb's 600m Yr 5 record went this year. Gained two, lost one.
'Records are only borrowed' (Lord Coe, not me says coach Mr Charles Abbott, I could never think of anything that good!)
The website pages below will include holiday clubs, fixtures, results, letters and information on how we are continuing to improve the PE and Sport opportunities for all children at St. Mary's.
TWO NEW EVENTS that took place last term -Spring 2017
Yrs 3&4 Boys 7 a side Football 9.30-14.45 Wed 29 Mar - at Alleyn Court School
KS1 Cross-Country for both boys and girls teams -
Garon Park, Wed 8 Mar 2017
A cold and drizzly day could not prevent 21 schools, 450 children - including our full squad of 24 from Years 1 & 2 at St Mary’s - from having a great afternoon!
Our Year 1 children were faced with a 1,000m course and ran bravely. For all of them this was their first attempt at a cross country competition and they can take credit and experience to next year.
Our Year 2 athletes simply dominated the competition.
For the girls, Faith won with Eilidh second.
Skyla was12th and Sylvia 14th, which placed them FIRST as a team.
For the boys, Faith’s brother Praise won with Tinotenda third. Nathaniel was 13th and Samuel 36th, which also placed them FIRST as a team.
Two Golds, a Silver and a Bronze: four of the six Year 2 medals went to St Mary's.
A great day for the school. We can all be proud of their achievements. by Mr Abbott and Mr Woolf.
-indoors at Southend Leisure & Tennis Centre -12th December 2016 St Mary's took 46 athletes to this event from years 3, 4, 5 & 6.
SHA is colourful, fast and fun (and noisy!): children throw Soft (foam) Javelins, dive through tunnels and jump hurdles in the Over/Under Relay,
do Chest Push, Standing Long Jump, Standing Triple Jump, Vertical jump & Speed Bounce.
They also did super fast Relay Races, one of which was Yr 5&6 Boys 4x1Lap in which Iqbary, Chester, Raul and Marcel won in a thrilling finish.
We certainly had fun!
Overall the lower KS2 and the upper KS2 children both finished sixth out of sixteen schools which is much better than last year and good progress.
Well done to all children who took part and who represented the school with great performances - and noisy support, including some parents,
a few LSAs and a Governor! The children were well behaved and a credit to the school. by Mr Woolf and Mr Abbott.
