Community at the Heart
Why is our vision centered around 'community'?
Community is important to God because it reflects His very nature and purposes for humanity. God encourages us to take care of our brothers and sisters - whether friends or enemies.
The concept of community is inherent within the Trinity itself. God exists eternally as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, in perfect unity and love. This divine community exemplifies the essence of relationship and mutual support, serving as a model for human communities.
Humanity is created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). Just as God exists in community within the Trinity, humans are designed for relationship and community with one another. Our communal nature reflects the very nature of God, fostering unity and interconnectedness.
God recognises the strength and encouragement that comes from community. In Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, the importance of companionship and mutual support is emphasised, stating that "two are better than one." Through community, individuals can find solace, encouragement, and strength to navigate life's challenges.
God's redemptive plan for humanity involves a communal journey. Throughout the Bible, God calls His people to live in community, united in purpose and mission. In Acts 2:42-47, the early Christian community exemplifies this communal living, sharing resources, supporting one another, and spreading the message of hope and salvation.
We must remember the importance of maintaining connection with each other and focus on building a community of love in word and action. God did not intend for us to live in isolation - we are designed to thrive in relationship with others. Community is important to God because it reflects His nature of love, unity, and support. Through community, individuals can experience the richness of relationships, find strength in togetherness and fulfill their purpose.
At St. Mary's, these theological roots serve as guiding principles in our daily endeavors. We believe that a nurturing community provides a fertile ground for academic, emotional, and spiritual growth. By embracing diversity, fostering empathy, and promoting collaboration, we empower our children to thrive not only academically but also as compassionate and responsible members of society.
We are all at our best when we are experiencing life's highs and lows with other people. Everyone needs community.
Being in community creates the ideal environment to be a friend (like Barnabas), seek a mentor or teacher (like Paul) or teach others (like Timothy). What community comes down to is lifting each other up, learning from one another, and being the type of friend we all need.
While on earth, Jesus showed us how to build communities knit together by a deep sense of belonging and love. God calls us in fellowship with one another on earth because it reflects the fellowship we will have with one another in heaven.
The words of Jeremiah 29:11 resonate deeply with our vision: "For I know the plans I have for you, plans to give you hope and a future." This promise reinforces our commitment to providing a supportive community where each individual is valued, nurtured, and equipped to realise their full potential. Just as God had a plan for His people, we believe that every member of our school community is entrusted with a purpose, and together, we journey towards a future filled with hope and possibilities.
