OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning)

OPAL is an award-winning, mentor supported programme that is supporting us to improve the quality of our play opportunities. OPAL is the only programme of its kind that has been independently proven to sustainably improve the quality of play in British primary schools.

Our school vision is that everyone flourishes throughout their time with us, enjoying life in all its fullness and that applies to both academic learning and learning through play. We believe a positive play experience enhances a child’s emotional, mental and physical wellbeing.

In April 2023, we began our OPAL journey and we are delighted with the positive impact it is having on our pupils at lunchtime. They now have a more purposeful, enjoyable and rewarding lunchtime experience and are fulfilled throughout every part of the day, which enables them to be more receptive to learning inside and outside the classroom. This, ultimately, fits our belief that happy children learn best.
