St. Mary’s, Prittlewell, Church of England Primary School is committed to the safeguarding and protection of all children. To achieve this, we closely follow national and local authority guidelines and adhere to all statutory procedures. All concerns for the safeguarding, welfare, health and well-being of pupils are  reported to one of our  Designated Teachers with Responsibility for  Safeguarding and Child Protection.

It is the school’s responsibility to refer all such concerns to the appropriate authorities or specific services, in accordance with these procedures. The school Governor nominated for Safeguarding is Mr Daniel Bryant.

We require all staff, parents/carers and volunteers to have an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check in order to support us in our work. Please contact the School Office for more details about completing a form. 

Operation Encompass

St. Mary’s is part of Operation Encompass, a partnership between the police and schools that helps us to support children who may have experienced or witnessed domestic abuse.

Through Operation Encompass, the school’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) may be informed by the police when a child has been involved in, or exposed to, a domestic abuse incident. This information is shared securely and confidentially, usually before the start of the next school day.

This enables us to provide appropriate, sensitive support for the child in school and to ensure that their wellbeing remains at the heart of our response.

Any information received through Operation Encompass is treated with the same high level of confidentiality as other safeguarding information.

If you are experiencing domestic abuse, or are worried about how something happening at home may be affecting your child, you can talk to us. Please contact a member of our safeguarding team. We will listen, treat what you tell us sensitively and help you to access appropriate support.

You do not have to wait for an Operation Encompass notification to ask us for help. Our priority is to work alongside families to help keep children safe and supported.
